Our scheme has now been in place for June, and in that short time we now have 200 employees participating. As a police force, we are striving to reduce bureaucracy, so we were keen to take advantage of Cyclescheme's supplementary services to simplify the process for employees and minimise the administration for us. This has worked well thanks to the personal support from Cyclescheme staff and the quality of their website. Most importantly, in keeping with the sustainable development agenda, Cyclescheme use a network of independent bike shops, so our participation in this scheme helps support local businesses. The most common question I have been asked by our employees is "what's the catch?", and it has become clear to us that there isn't one; everyone benefits.

How about this as a suggestion for what to do in your leisure time to put a few miles onto your commuter bike? Bath cyclist Derek Fisher is attempting a 2000 mile ride on his own, i.e. without backup, from Lands End to John O'Groats and then back home! He is starting on the 21st May and hopes to finish by the 14th June 2008. Derek is collecting for the Children's Hospice South West. We saw Derek locally on day six, having just completed the loop from Bath to Lands End and back. Donations can be made at: www.justgiving.com/derekfisher Latest news from last Sunday: Hi everyone, Derek Fisher reached Perth on Saturday enjoying fine, warm weather with light winds. Using roads avoiding the A9 Derek rode through very scenic countryside which made for an enjoyable day. His B&B was about 30 miles north of Perth. Sunday saw Derek enjoy another fine day for his ride to Inverness. His overnight stay was about 12 miles north of Inverness. The next leg will take him up towards Wick and the weather forecast is good for at least the next couple of days. Hi Richard, just a short note to say that Derek reached John-O-Groats on Sunday with pretty awful weather. Today,Monday, saw him start the journey home but I think the weather is about to get a lot worse but I am sure he will carry on. Cheers for now Tony T. Tuesday saw Derek thro` Bonnar Bridge then the north coast to Bettyhill Down to Laig. The weather was dry, wet, dry but he says` he is fine and on schedule. It looks as though the weather may hold fair for the next couple of days at least. More news as I receive it. Tony T. Derek is making good progress on his epic ride. Yesterday, 4th. he rode from Lairg to Fort William in glorious weather and he said he had a most enjoyable ride. Today, Thurs. 15th. he rode up over Ranoch Moor and Glencoe where the weather was good and then heading south along the banks of Loch Lomond to Glasgow. Here he was soaked in a cloud burst!! But says` he enjoyed the day. Tony T. Friday; Derek covered a hard ride today from Glasgow to Carlisle. He says it was a bumpy road but at least the weather was kind. Again today, Saturday, the weather was warm, sunny and with a tail wind, which assisted derek over Shap fell and on through Lancaster to his overnight stop at Preston. He says that it is a short ride tomorrow when he goes to stay with his daughter in Manchester. More as I get it . Tony T. I had a message from Derek at about 18-00 hrs. today saying that he had enjoyed an excellent ride through the Wye valley on the last day of his epic charity ride. Derek covered 1875 miles in the 21 days of the trip and the weather was mostly fine. Those of us who attend the Tuesday rides had better be on form, if Derek shows up I feel shore he will be able to set a good speed and for most of the day!! This will be the last message on this subject, but the website to send donations is; www.justgiving.com/derekfisher Cheers and take care everyone, Tony T.

Here's wishing a very good year to all employers, employees, partner bike shops and prospective clients! We are all looking forward to a great year with many new schemes set to start in either January or February. Not typical biking months but a sign of the incredible enthusiasm we have received. Recent changes here at Cyclescheme include a move to a bigger office within Bath and the forthcoming recruitment of a partner shop liaison manager to better look after your needs. With five out of ten staff cycling to work already we may need a bigger shower as well... Many thanks once more to all of our clients. Best wishes from the Cyclescheme team.

Do you ever wonder what life would be like if we could travel in ways that actually improve our health and the environment? We'd have safer communities, cleaner air and a better quality of life. Sustrans' Connect2 is a real chance to achieve this in 79 communities across the UK. Connect2 plans to create networks of new walking and cycling routes for the local journeys we all make every day. Bridges and new crossings will be built over barriers such as busy roads, rivers and railways, making it possible for people to walk and cycle to work, to the shops, to school and to green spaces. The support of local people is vitally important to make Connect2 a reality. Connect2 is competing against five other projects for a single grant of 50 million from The Big Lottery Fund's Living Landmarks: The People's Millions, with the winner to be decided by public television vote this December. Register your support on the website at www.sustransconnect2.org.uk or Text Connect2 to 80010. Connect2 will then be able to keep you updated about its progress towards the TV vote in December.

If you were lucky enough to be one of the employees whose employers bought over 500 bikes in either Fife Council, Devon and Cornwall Police or Highlands Council last year then we have good news for you: It's gonna happen again! All three schemes will be repeated over the next few months and, due to last year's success, will run pretty much the same. The major improvement will be the use of our secure ordering site and can be accessed via links distributed to all employees. So, once you have your quote, the simple procedure is to put this on-line via your quick link to our secure site. You will receive your bike voucher once your application has been approved.

We have streamlined our quote form and new pads will be distributed to all partner shops over the next two weeks. The major change is that the forms are now duplicates, as opposed to the old triplicate forms, having removed the copy that is posted back to Cyclescheme. This both reduces paperwork and costs but also because it is 99% unnecessary, speeds up delivery times: Due to recent improvements in our secure ordering site we now enable all participating employers to give their employees a secure ordering page. This is the page where employees place their orders by inputting the quote details on-line - hence making it unnecessary to return a copy to Cyclescheme and reducing administration.
Our calculator can show you the big savings you could make through Cyclescheme. Enter your employer code if your company is already running the scheme to make sure you get the most accurate figures.
Savings displayed here are for illustration only. If you don't enter an employer code, your calculation will not include information such as finance charges and your actual savings may be lower.
