Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op is the UK’s original workers’ co-operative bicycle retailer. Founded in 1977 as an alternative to mainstream cycle shops, the Bike Co-op now runs six stores including our shop in Newcastle (since 2003) and our online outlet, www.edinburghbicycle.com (since 1998).

In September 2017 our Newcastle shop was voted the Best Bike Shop in the North East in Cycling Weekly magazine’s annual UK-wide poll, where 21,000 people cast their vote.

This award was no one-off. Our Leeds shop was voted the best in Yorkshire, our Aberdeen branch best in North East Scotland and our oldest established shop in Edinburgh was honoured with the accolade Best Bicycle Shop in Britain.

Cycling Weekly reckoned our shops’ popularity was down to our co-operative ethos.
